Executive Profiles

Alan Chan – President

President Alan is a thinker, aspiring entrepreneur, leader, and pocket square enthusiast dedicated to serving the community through volunteerism and charitable giving. As a Charter Member and Vice President for the past 2 years, he has been involved with and continues to work with local organizations including Covenant House Vancouver and Ronald McDonald House BC, among others. He is proud and excited to continually make a positive impact on the community. Alan’s goals as President are to bring numerous other charitable service activities and fundraisers to the table for 2014/2015,  and to involve fellow members taking part to have fun and take pride in their work.

Samantha Ton – 1st Vice President

Samantha joined the club in 2012 as a chartered member.  As a new member then to the Lions family, she was getting to know what Lions really was about, and what contributions she could make to make a difference in the community. She is now serving as first Vice President since July 2014. In addition to being actively engaged in the club’s activities, Samantha assists the president in his strategic planning and, in his absence, may act on his behalf.

Amy Lau – Secretary

Amy has been a VDCLC member since 2012. She previously held the role of deputy secretary  and is now the club’s Secretary. Her duties include monthly membership and event reports; drafting meeting minutes and agendas; and receiving and relaying important Lions’ communications. Amy is passionate about causes that support animals, seniors, and at-risk youth.

Carey Lau – Deputy Secretary

Carey was a VDCLC member since 2012 and is now serving as the club’s Deputy Secretary as of September 2014.The Deputy Secretary assists the Club Secretary in submitting monthly meeting agendas and minutes; club events and membership reports; and serve as the primary point of communication for Lions Clubs.

Alvin Lau – Immediate Past President

Alvin Lau is the Charter President and the Immediate Past President of the VDCLC.  As a former Canadian Badminton National Team member and National Champion, Alvin has transitioned from an athlete to a teacher and coach.  Due to his familiarity with youths, Alvin has an interest in supporting related causes such as homelessness and personal growth and development.  As the IPP, Alvin assists and give guidance to the current club president and provide support in the club as needed.

Olive Wong – Treasurer

Olive was a VDCLC member since 2012 and is now serving as the club’s Treasurer as of September 2013. As the Treasurer, she keeps track of the club’s finances and the amount raised for charity.

Gloria Leung – Membership Director

Gloria joined the Vancouver Diamond Campus Lions Club in 2012 and has since been an active member and a Board of Director.  She has served her club in many capacities and chaired numerous service projects and fundraising events in the community.  She served 2 years as the Club Secretary from 2012-2014 and is currently the Membership Director for her club.  In her role, she leads the Club Membership Committee to design and implement the membership recruitment and retention program.  This year, Gloria hopes to achieve a 20% membership growth and recruit active members though hosting an Open House event for her club.  Her goal is to bring club members closer to serve the community through fun and fellowship.

In recognition of her service to Lions Clubs, Gloria has received many awards and achievements including: Certificate of Excellence Award from the Lions International President, Certificate of Achievement Award from the District Governor, Secretary Excellence Award, Certified Guiding Lions Certificate, and 2 Certificate of Appreciation from District Governor and Zone Chair.

In addition to serving the Lions Club, Gloria has served in various literacy organizations and participated in environmental conservation projects abroad.  Some of her most memorable experiences include teaching in rural communities in Korea and installing water purification filters in the most remote parts of Australia.   While Gloria is not working or serving the community, she enjoys playing badminton, practicing yoga, and meeting new friends.   And of course, trying out new restaurants in Vancouver!

Lawrence Cheung – IT Director

Lawrence has been a VDCLC member since 2015.  He has taken on the role of the IT Director.  His role includes updating the website and providing the club with technological support.  He has been in the video game industry for the past 5 year as a software engineer.  He graduated from Simon Fraser University in Computing Science, and while he was studying, he was very active in volunteering in many student clubs, and he was the Nintendo DS Club president where he and his team held video game tournaments, organized and promoted video game development and game night gatherings.  He also volunteered in different volunteer programs at SFU including being an orientation leader, career peer educator, and an international mentor.  He enjoys helping others and hope to bring happiness and contribute back to the community.  His hobbies include cooking, playing guitar, making youtube videos, and playing video games.
