Ronald McDonald House Breakfast

This time around, the Vancouver Diamond Campus Lions Club came back to Ronald McDonald House BC to cook brunch for the families. It was a spooktacular event with towers of scrumptious food and tons of fun! Huge thanks to our sponsors, Canada SafewaySave-On-Foods and Loblaws City Market for making this happen and a huge thanks to our club volunteers for coming out super early morning to cook!

Member Appreciation BBQ!

Work hard play hard! The Summer is coming to an end but it doesn’t stomp our spirit from celebrating another successful year and to kick-off the new year. On the past Saturday, we had a BBQ gathering to bond and appreciate all the hard work that our members put in to make all our events happened. As a token of appreciation, we also presented everyone a collage of pictures taken from events and activities of last year. We will have lots of service and fundraising events coming up soon. Stay tuned and subscribe to our Facebook to hear more about our upcoming events!

Back from our club retreat!

No wifi, no reception - no problem. An amazing and blissful weekend at Knouff Lake Resort was spent amongst serene waters with our members at our annual planning retreat. Not only was it a chance to appreciate the great outdoors in beautiful British Columbia, it was a valuable team-building experience.
We've got some big plans ahead in the new Lions year.  We look forward to our meetings in the months ahead to discuss and execute our planned projects.  Our core objectives remain the same: to make an impact and to better serve our communities.

VDCLC Pub Night Fundraiser to support Focus Foundation of BC

Despite the calm of the quiet summer months around us, the Vancouver Diamond Campus Lions Club successfully held a pub night fundraiser in support of Focus Foundation of BC. Fun and games, raffle prizes, and burgers and beers were part of the equation as the VDCLC fundraised and created awareness for an important organization committed to education of at-risk youth. With an overwhelmingly positive turnout of over 50 guests at Blackbird Public House, the night was a great success. Thank you to all the attendees again for the generous support. Your willingness to help provide youth with access to educational opportunities will no doubt contribute positively to the community and leave a lasting impression on the youth in the Focus BC family.

Spring Conference 2015

Last month, our club attended the annual District 19A Spring Conference celebrating our district’s successful year. With the help of many dedicated committee members and volunteers, we enjoyed a fabulous conference with a packed schedule for the whole day. The morning started with an Opening Session at 8:30am followed by Memorial Service and Voting, then Buffet Luncheon at noon. The highlight for us was definitely the keynote speaker at the luncheon, Peter Legge – a best-selling author of fifteen books and a community leader who devotes his time to many worthwhile organizations. He was very inspirational and shared with us many stories and how to make the most out of each day. It was wonderful to hear him talk and motivate people towards positive change.

A big thank you to the Conference Co-Chairpersons and the organizing committee for a fantastic program. And congratulations to DG Jimmy Ho on a successful Lions year! We look forward to another successful year serving with fellow lions in our district.

Open House Social Event at Wings

We ended February with our open house social event at Wings on Kingsway with the objective to raise awareness of our club. We are honored to have been joined by our friends, members and fellow lions from the Vancouver Milennium Lions Club. We had an amazing turnout of around 27 people! The fulfilling day was filled with many team building activities, from the fun character ice breaker game to the raffle prizes during lunch. We all came together not only as members of the Lions Club but also as friends. Thank you everyone for being able to attend and making the event such a memorable one.

January Update! Archery tag

A ‘friendly’ archery tag game against another fellow Lions Club? Challenge accepted!

On January 25, 2015, we attended the archery tag event hosted by the Vancouver Diamond Millennial Lions Club at 6Pack Beach. In attendance were approximately 40 people, including members from each club and other guests. To even the playing field, our members were divided amongst five different teams with two teams pitted against each other every round. Each player donned a face mask and tried out the bows and foam-tipped arrows while rules were explained. The sand field is divided in half with a 5-spot target board on each side as well as bunkers and obstacles to provide cover from the raining arrows.
 Games Objectives
For the first half of the event, we played standard archery tag where the goal is to have the fewest missing targets on the 5-spot target board at the end of the round, or to eliminate all the opposing players. During the second half, we played VIP archery tag. In this game, one player on each team, the VIP, exchanges his or her bow and arrows for a round shield. The goal of the game is to take out the VIP of the opposing team.
 Actual Game Play
Heart rate increased.
Breaths quickened.
Adrenaline pumped through the veins.
Fighting for our team, each of our club members, though devastated at having to shoot down fellow members, battled hard. We strategized, took careful aim, let loose volleys of arrows, and struck down enemies, targets, whatever stood in the way of our ideals.

Thoughts and Final Words
Actually, we were focused less on ideals, and more on having fun. At the end of the 2.5 hour event, we were exhausted but elated at meeting and connecting with the players. After all, you cannot say you know someone until you fought with them. And we also managed to develop key archery skills for survival as a bonus!
A big thank you to the Vancouver Diamond Millenial Lions Club for organizing and inviting us to the event! We cannot wait to see what other events your club will host in the future!
