A ‘friendly’ archery tag game against another fellow Lions Club? Challenge accepted!
On January 25, 2015, we attended the archery tag event hosted by the Vancouver Diamond Millennial Lions Club at 6Pack Beach. In attendance were approximately 40 people, including members from each club and other guests. To even the playing field, our members were divided amongst five different teams with two teams pitted against each other every round. Each player donned a face mask and tried out the bows and foam-tipped arrows while rules were explained. The sand field is divided in half with a 5-spot target board on each side as well as bunkers and obstacles to provide cover from the raining arrows.
Games Objectives
For the first half of the event, we played standard archery tag where the goal is to have the fewest missing targets on the 5-spot target board at the end of the round, or to eliminate all the opposing players. During the second half, we played VIP archery tag. In this game, one player on each team, the VIP, exchanges his or her bow and arrows for a round shield. The goal of the game is to take out the VIP of the opposing team.
Actual Game Play
Heart rate increased.
Breaths quickened.
Adrenaline pumped through the veins.
Fighting for our team, each of our club members, though devastated at having to shoot down fellow members, battled hard. We strategized, took careful aim, let loose volleys of arrows, and struck down enemies, targets, whatever stood in the way of our ideals.
Thoughts and Final Words
Actually, we were focused less on ideals, and more on having fun. At the end of the 2.5 hour event, we were exhausted but elated at meeting and connecting with the players. After all, you cannot say you know someone until you fought with them. And we also managed to develop key archery skills for survival as a bonus!
A big thank you to the Vancouver Diamond Millenial Lions Club for organizing and inviting us to the event! We cannot wait to see what other events your club will host in the future!
